What does dreaming about being late or missing an important appointment mean?
Category: Dream Interpretation
Answer
Bismillah. Dreams about being late, missing appointments, or failing to arrive somewhere are common and addressed in Islamic dream literature in terms of their spiritual significance. Ibn Sirin and later scholars note: • Missing Salah (prayer) in a dream — may be a serious warning to examine one's relationship with prayer in waking life, and a call to guard the salah. • Missing a journey or transport — may indicate an opportunity that will be missed, or a decision to re-evaluate timing in an important matter. • Being unprepared for an exam or task — may indicate the dreamer feels unprepared for a test from Allah, or needs to increase knowledge and preparation. Generally, dreams of this type are considered from the nafs (self) — arising from anxiety and daily concerns rather than being from Allah or Shaytan. The Prophet ﷺ said that dreams come from three sources: from Allah, from Shaytan, or from one's own preoccupations (حديث النفس). Dreams arising from daily stress typically require no specific interpretation.
