Are taweez (amulets) permissible?

Taweez containing Quranic verses are a matter of scholarly difference, but the safer and stronger position — and the one we follow — is to avoid them entirely. Taweez containing symbols, numbers, foreign writings, or names is forbidden and often involves shirk. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever hangs an amulet has committed shirk.'
